Giant Sea Kayaking - Apostle Islands - August 2016

Deadlines: Would like to have commitment letter by Jan. 19th Court of Honor. Crew sizes limited to 6 + 1 guide. We will have two or three crews in total.

Dates: Sunday, August 7th to Saturday, August 13th

Ages: 13 and older

Training: Training would need to be done individually and as a group to prepare for kayaking on a big lake. One training trip will be either Kinnickinnic State Park or the St. Croix River.

Requirements: You must be a good swimmer and some kayaking experience is required as you
may have to paddle up to 15 miles per day. Participants must pass the BSA swimmer’s test prior to arrival.

Tour Guides/Planning: Shawn Olesewski, Mike Odberg, other guide(s)-St. Scholastica

Trip Highlights: Swimming, hiking, paddling, sea caves, lighthouse, interpretive center, quarry, beaches, fish camp, boat wrecks, berries

Equipment: Half the group in tandem kayaks, half the group in single kayaks

Gear: Clothing, personal items, sleeping bag/pad (packing light like backpacking trip)

Provided: Dry/wet suits, kayaks, paddles, life jackets, cooking equipment, food, tents

Itinerary: Route could change based on lottery. Up to 15 miles a day kayaking

Day 1: Training @ Lake Nebagamon, WI YMCA (2 1/2 hour drive)
-2 mile kayak to dairy queen in town

Day 2: Embark. On Water

Day 3: On Water

Day 4: On Water

Day 5: On Water

Day 6: On Water

Day 7: Land and Depart (4 hour drive)
