Tomahawk - Older Scout Programs

The following programs / Merit Badges are available to scouts that have been to Tomahawk for a few years, and are looking to try something new. A $25 (non-refundable) deposit will be required to complete your reservation. Sign-Up online for Tomahawk and send an email to Eric Bergquist at ebergquist@q.com to check availability.


EXPLORE Program Afternoon Session (additional $25) (11) Spaces available as of 5/20

Still need merit badges but are looking for something more? This entry level high adventure program is offered morning or afternoon and still allows youth to earn two merit badges back in camp. Busing to and from the Welcome Center is provided. Youth will be back before the next meal starts.

Activities:

·         Paintball Course

·         Throwing Stars and Knives

·         Blow Guns

·         Giant Blob, Iceberg

·         High Ropes

·         Mountain Biking

·         Mountain Boarding

·         Sporting Arrows

If a youth does not wish to participate in a particular activity they can notify the counselor the day before and stay back in camp for that day. A substitute activity will not be provided.

Age Requirement: Completed 7th grade OR 13 years old.


Days: Sunday through Thursday

Time: 2pm – 5pm

Days: Monday through Friday

Time: 9am – 12pm

RIDE Adventure (additional $50) PROGRAM IS FULL

Weeklong program. Ride it all from ATV’s to ziplines. This program will take you to every corner of Tomahawk within its 3,000 acres. * Must have an additional permission form completed by parent or guardian to participate. Forms will be collected at camp.

Activities:

·         ATV Riding

·         High Ropes

·         Mountain Biking

·         Paddle Boarding

·         Mountain Boarding


If a youth does not wish to participate in a particular activity they can notify the counselor the day before and stay back in camp for that day. A substitute activity will not be provided.

Age Requirement: 14 years old on first day of program.

Days: 

Sunday

Time: 2pm – 5pm

Monday through Thursday

Time: 9am – 5pm

ATV (One-Day Program) (additional $25) PROGRAM IS FULL

ATV riding is also available as a one day program. In this hands on training participants learn how to handle an ATV safely. Riders will complete a ATV Safety Institute training prior to going on a trail ride. Riders train on the ATV range and then move out on the trails to explore the back trails of Tomahawk.  * Must have an additional permission form completed by parent or guardian to participate. Forms will be collected at camp.


Age Requirement: 14 years old on day of riding.

Days offered: Friday Only

Time: After Lunch until 8:30pm

Where: Scout Farm Riding Range.

How do Scouts Get There: On the Camp Bus. Meet at bus stop after lunch.



TREKS Adventure (additional $50)  (1) Spaces available as of 5/20

Adventure outside of camp all week in TREKS. This is the most Extreme program we have. Truly unique experiences.

Activities:

·         Whitewater Kayaking on the Brule River

·         Rock Climbing at Taylor’s Falls

·         St. Croix River Canoe Overnight

·         High Ropes

·         Mountain Biking

·        Earn Geology, Climbing, and Kayaking Merit Badges

·         Mega Tower Climbing

If a youth does not wish to participate in a particular activity they can notify the counselor the day before and stay back in camp for that day. A substitute activity will not be provided.

Age Requirement: Completed 8th grade OR 14 years old.

AQUATICS Adventure (additional $50)  PROGRAM IS FULL

If you love water this program based heavily on sailing and kayaking is for you. This weeklong program takes fun on the water to a new level.

Activities:

·         Earn Whitewater, Kayaking, Motorboating and Sailing Merit Badges.

·         Whitewater overnight on the Brule River

·         Paddle Boarding

·         Wind Surfing

·         Catamaran Sailing

·        Aqua Rig

·        Iceberg Climbing

If a youth does not wish to participate in a particular activity they can notify the counselor the day before and stay back in camp for that day. A substitute activity will not be provided.


Age Requirement: Completed 8th grade OR 14 years old.

How do Scouts Get There: On the Aquatics Van



Ranch Hands (additional $50)  (6) Spaces available as of 5/20

Take the reins into your hands and travel the land of Tomahawk on horseback. This program will teach the basics of riding and more. You will have your own horse for the week to care for.

Activities:

·         Earn Horsemanship and Animal Science Merit Badges.

·         Extended Trail Rides

·         Horse Ride Overnight with dutch oven dinner at Logging Camp


Age Requirement: Completed 7th grade OR 13 years old.

Days: Monday through Friday

Time: 8:45am – 12:20pm

Where: Chippewa / Sioux Horse Corral

STEM NOVA Program (additional $25)  (4) Spaces available as of 5/20

Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics are active in all parts of life, even camping. Scouts in the STEM NOVA program at Tomahawk will get to explore camp in a whole new way while earning a new nationally recognized Boy Scout Advancement. They'll do research and science experiments while exploring camp environment.

What Do You Earn:

        ·         You can earn the Whoosh and Shot Boy Scout NOVA Award along with Nuclear Science and Robotics.

Age Requirement: Completed 7th grade OR 13 years old.

Days: Sunday through Thursday

Time: 2pm – 5pm

News Team Program (additional $25)  (2) Spaces available as of 5/20

Scouts are reporting the news during camp at Tomahawk! Live radio broadcasts, photo journalism, publishing articles, and touring the local paper are just a few of the opportunities that await if you join the news team. Troops have the option to bring a FM/AM Radio to camp to tune into the WTSR Radio Station for news, music, and program updates.

What Do You Earn:

        ·         Radio, Journalism, Moviemaking, and Photography Merit Badges.

Age Requirement: Completed 7th grade OR 13 years old.

Days: Sunday through Friday

Time: 9am – 12pm
