Who: ALL Registered Scouts and Scouters
What: Hiking, Backpacking and Camping
When: June 19 - 21, 2015
Where: Devil's Track Gorge along the North Shore in Minnesota
Why: To have fun and explore the outdoors. Scouts will be participating in backpacking and hiking
Cost: $40 per Scout and $30 per Adult (includes Sven and Ole's pizza), personal money needed for Sunday lunch
Departure: Otter Lake Elem. School on Friday, June 19th at 11:30am. Eat lunch before arriving.
- Drive to Grand Marais Campground with an intermediate stop at Gooseberry Falls
- Walk to Sven & Ole’s for pizza after camp is set up
- Saturday morning - breakfast and hike about 4 miles to the campsite at Devil’s Track Falls including walking down the “stairway to heaven” staircase
- Sunday morning - breakfast, break camp and hike out with a stop on Pincushion Mountain to climb around
- Depart for home about noon - with stop for quick lunch should be home about 6pm
Returning: Sunday around 6pm. Scouts will be dropped off at their homes
Sign-up: Sheets will be at the troop meetings. All cancellations after Tuesday, June 16th will be charged $25.
This camp consists of hiking - it is VERY important that everyone has suitable clothes for hiking, which means NO COTTON! This could cause the boys great discomfort during the hiking. Scouts will have be outside all day.
Scouts should bring:
Rain gear
2 underwear - non cotton 2 pair shorts (at least 1 pr non cotton for hiking) 1 pair long pants - non cotton 2 shirts (at least 1 non cotton for hiking) 2 pair socks - non cotton Hiking boots Sweatshirt or lightweight jacket
Closed toe shoes for in camp Sleeping clothes Lightweight Sleeping bag Small, compactable Pillow Lightweight Sleeping pad | Scout book Flashlight Pocketknife Mess kit, cup, knife, fork and spoon (plastic recommended) 2 Water bottles
Backpack suitable for backpacking
Smellables (personal hygiene): Toothbrush/toothpaste Soap and washcloth Sunscreen and bug spray Personal medication

Wear Class A uniform with a Class B underneath for traveling
