Leaders Choice Campout

Who: All Scouts are welcome and Encouraged to attend

What: Leaders Choice Camp Out  

Where: Scout Camp on Lake Shetek;  Located near Currie MN (approx. 3 1/2 hours) in SW MN.    The camp is run by the Sioux Falls, SD Council.

Why: To try a new camping site at a State Park in South Western MN

We will be doing some hiking at the State Park as well as visiting the Pipestone National Monument and the Souix Indian Museum in Morton MN on the way home.

Lake Shetek State Park

 The word "Shetek" is Ojibwe for "pelican," a bird which visits Lake Shetek during the summer and fall. The park contains the largest lake in southwestern Minnesota, which forms the headwaters of the Des Moines River.

Expect great fishing for walleye, northern, crappie, and bullheads. Loon Island, a 45-acre island on Lake Shetek, is accessible on foot via a causeway and includes an interpretive trail.

Visit the Koch Cabin and monument memorializing pioneer settlers.

When: April 21-23, 2017

Cost: Approximately $50 for the weekend

Departure: TAMARACK NATURE CENTER on Friday, April 21st at 5:00pm. Please Arrive at least 5 minutes early for role call and ride assignments.

Eat supper before arriving.

Returning: Sunday around 3 pm. Scouts will be dropped off at their homes.

Sign-up: Sign-up online or on sign up sheet will be at the troop meetings. No shows and cancellations after April 11 will be charged $25.00

Scouts should bring

One complete set of non-cotton clothes for outdoor activities: polyester, poly-pro, wool or nylon

2 underwear

2 pair long pants

2 shirts


Winter jacket

Hat and gloves


Closed toe shoes

Sleeping clothes

Sleeping bag

Sleeping PAD


Mess kit, cup, knife, fork and spoon (plastic recommended)

Scout book

Flashlight / Head lamp


Water bottle


Plastic bag for dirty clothes

Smellables (personal hygiene):



Soap and washcloth

Personal medication

Wear Class A uniform with a Class B underneath for traveling

We will be sleeping in heated cabins. Check the weather and pack accordingly.
