May Camp-out

“Whitewater Rafting/Kayaking/Camping”

Who: Registered Scouts and Scouters

Whitewater Rafting - Sunday, May 19 at 10am - must be minimum age 12

Kayaking - Sunday, May 19 at 10am - open to all ages

When: May 18 and 19, 2013

Where: 15 miles south of Duluth, Minnesota

Why: To have fun, of course!!

Cost: $70 per Scout and  $60 per Adult for Whitewater Rafting , $50 per Scout and $40 per Adult for Kayaking

Departure: Otter Lake Elem. School on Saturday, May 18th at 8am. Eat breakfast before arriving.

Returning: Sunday around 4pm. Scouts will be dropped off at their homes.  We will stop for a fast food lunch on the way home.

Sign-up: Sign-up sheet will be at the troop meetings. All cancellations after Tuesday, May 7th will be charged $55 for Whitewater Rafting/$35 for Kayaking.

This camp trip will consist of Saturday camping - outdoor activities (fishing, hiking, games, exploring the camp).  On Sunday, the Troop will head to Superior Whitewater Rafting, which is on the St. Louis River.  The scouts and adults will participate in whitewater rafting or kayaking.  The trips start at 10am.  Please see the link for additional information and participation requirements:   http://www.minnesotawhitewater.com/

A minor release form must be signed for all scouts attending - see link below.


Scouts should bring:

Complete change of clothes and extra socks

2 underwear

2 pair shorts

1 pair long pants

2 shirts

One complete set of non-cotton clothes for in the canoe:

Polyester shirt
Rainsuit or light waterproof jacket and pants
Polyester or wool socks
Old tennis shoes (no sandals, moccasins or water shoes)

Swimsuit

Beach Towel

Sweatshirt or lightweight jacket

Hat/Gloves

Closed toe shoes – dry for in camp

Sleeping clothes


Sleeping bag (check weather for appropriate weight)

Pillow

Sleeping pad

Scout book

Flashlight

Pocketknife

Mess kit, cup, knife, fork and spoon (plastic recommended)

Water bottle

Backpack or duffel bag

Plastic bag for wet clothes


Smellables (personal hygiene):

Toothbrush/toothpaste

Soap and washcloth

Sunscreen and bug spray

Personal medication


Money for fast food lunch on Sunday

Fishing Pole - optional


Wear Class A uniform with a Class B underneath for traveling

Check the weather forecast to see how cold it might get and pack accordingly.
