Many Point Summer Camp

Who:  All Scouts

What: To earn merit badges, complete advancement requirements and have a lot of fun!!! 

​

When: Sunday, August 11th - Saturday, August 17th

​

Where:  Many Point Scout Camp

Buckskin - campsite Fitzpatrick

​

Important Dates:

  • Sign-up for camp by Tuesday, May 21st to avoid a late fee

    • Tentatively need to know by April 1st if you plan to attend​​

    • 494's Camping Coordinator will start signing up scouts for merit badges & older scout programs in early April

  • Scout Buck accounts will be charged on Tuesday, May 28th

  • Merit Badge & Activities Survey due by Tuesday, May 28th

    • The longer you wait, the less likely you are to get your first choices.​

  • Final camp sign-up Tuesday, May 28th

  • Family Dinner deadline Tuesday, June 25th

  • Health Forms due by Tuesday, June 25th

Cost: 

Scouts: $395

Scouts participating in Older Scout Programs: additional $5 - $60 depending on program

Adults: $150/week

 

NOTE: If you are a Scout and attend Tomahawk, you will receive a $50 discount for Many Point.

Scout Buck accounts will be charge for camp on Tuesday, May 28th.

***Any scout signing up after May 21st will be accessed a $25 late fee.***

Merit Badges, Older Scout Programs & Adult Programs:

 

All scouts are required to fill out the merit badge and activities survey or worksheet. Look up Merit Badge prerequisites here.

Departure Time:

We will be departing from Otter Lake Elementary School. Please arrive in Class A uniform with Class B underneath and with all gear by 7:40 am for check-in. Bring money for lunch. We will most likely be in Wadena or Park Rapids.

 

Return Time:

Scouts and gear will be brought back to Otter Lake Elementary School around 1:00 pm on Saturday, August 17th.

Before Departure Day: 

  1. See the Packing List for items each person should bring.

  2. Wear Class A uniform with a Class B underneath for traveling

  3. Health Forms
    Everyone attending camp will need to have a health form and physical, parts A-C completed prior to arrival.  Two printed copies of the health form and insurance card are due to Clint Koskie by June 25th. If you are unable to provide the copies by the deadline please conta    ct Clint Koskie by email at cakoskie@aol.com.

  4. Background Checks
    If you are an adult who would like to help at Tomahawk and plan to stay longer than 72 hours, you must fill out an adult application, submit to a background check and complete Youth Protection training. If you have questions regarding adult registration, please contact Eric Stetz at troop494@gmail.com or 612-810-9751.

  5. Emergency Contact Information
    If you will not be home during the week your scout is at camp, please provide us with a number at which you can be reached, or with an alternate contact in case of emergency.

Personal Gear / Money:​

Scouts should pack for a week-long trip; see the packing list. "Action Packers" or similarly sealed tubs to hold gear are recommended. It keeps their gear dry even during monsoon rain. Do not pack any food in with the personal gear (see "Snack Bins" section below). Scouts should bring spending money for the trading post.

 

Personal radios, tape/CD players are allowed and MUST be used with headphones. Scouts are not permitted to bring video games, cell phones, two-way radios or other electronic gear. Aside from the disruptive effect they have on the campsite, they rarely survive the camping experience.

Tent Signs:

Scouts are required to make a sign for their tent. The signs must have the scouts first name and at least the first letter of their last name. The letter can be painted, carved or engraved on the material. The only requirements are that the signs be durable, legible and the letters at least two inches high. The sign can be on a stake or hang from the tent. Note: cardboard doesn’t hold up very well in a camping environment unless it is covered with some sort of clear plastic.

 

Tent Assignments:

As much as possible, scouts will be permitted to choose their tent mate. To minimize confusion when we arrive, tent assignments will be finalized at the last troop meeting before we depart for camp. Youth sharing tents must be no more than two years apart in age.

Snack Bins:​

Scouts are permitted to bring a small snack bin with pop and snacks. DO NOT BRING ANYTHING THAT WILL MELT! The snack bins and any other food item will NOT be permitted in tents and will be stored in the troop trailer at night. No food of any type should be packed in your Scouts' personal gear. Many Point comes fully equipped with raccoons, mice, chipmunks, and bears.
