Planning our Future (2023)

On Friday, March 24th to Sunday March 26th, 2023, we went to Kiwanis scout camp for our annual Planning Weekend campout. After breakfast on Saturday, we started reviewing potential campout and day activities for the next year followed by voting to pick the preferred fun nights and campouts. The fun nights we decided on included a RC fun fly night and

Trollhaugen ski day next winter. Campouts we picked include trips to Parker Scout Camp (a castle!), Eagle Cave and the Wolf Center in Ely, MN.

After planning was done, the troop did some outdoor activities such as orienteering and geocaching. We also went on a two-mile hike to and from the general store in Marine on Saint Croix. The hike is included in the first-year scouts rank requirements, and everyone gets a treat paid for by our Scoutmaster. In our downtime back at camp there were activities such as Ping-Pong and Cribbage. On Saturday evening, we actually made smoked brisket for dinner and watched the movie Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.

There were a number of changes this year. For one, we had to sleep in the cabins further away from the dining hall since the bunkhouse we usually stay in was having “technical difficulties.” Surprisingly, the cabins felt quite homey, especially on the top bunks where it’s warm. Another change was that JT, who is the same year as I am, had his first campout as our new Senior Patrol Leader. So congratulations to him!
