Why is scouts important?

Why is scouts important? Scouts teaches important life skills and good values that you can

use throughout your life. It teaches kids how to work with others, think outside the box, and how to be outside your comfort zone. There are lots of requirements and merit badges to choose from (147, I think!).  Some of them are required if you get to Eagle. These required merit badges (focused on citizenship, fitness, and personal management) try to make you a well-rounded person. The other 130+ merit badges are related to different skills that you can learn, depending on your interests. Through scouts, I’ve done everything from cooking to shotguns to chess and horsemanship.

Scouts teaches you to be prepared for anything (except maybe zombie apocalypse… but if it were to happen, I’m running with scouts). Scouts also teaches you to stick to your goals. Not everyone wants Eagle but for those who do it's no simple task. Scouts work hard for multiple years to achieve it, chipping away little by little. There is a good balance between teaching you important skills and leaving room for fun (and lots of shenanigans) at the same time.
